Essay Practise

Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury in 1953 is a novel about a future dystopia controlled by the by government, although futuristic in 1953 most technologies used in the novel are available now but does this show we are moving towards a world closer to Fahrenheit 451?

In the novel the main character Montag works as a fireman, but in this alternative world firemen start fires to stop people from reading and sharing knowledge of books. “With the brass nozzle in his fists, with this great python spitting its venomous kerosene upon the world, the blood pounded in his head, and his hands were the hands of some amazing conductor playing all the symphonies of blazing and burning to bring down the tatters and charcoal ruins of history”.In this quotation it compares kerosene fueled flamethrowers to pythons spitting venom this shows fire as a symbol of destruction and fear, in the novel fire is predominantly used to burn books and whomever gets in its crossfire
